Greater Middlesex & Morris Habitat for Humanity (GMM Habitat) proudly broke ground on our Stonewald project, which will bring seven new, affordable, ENERGY STAR-certified homes to the Budd Lake neighborhood of Mount Olive Township.
Over 50 attendees gathered to celebrate this major milestone, including dedicated volunteers, neighbors, staff, and sponsors—with a notable turnout from the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Attendees heard from GMM Habitat CEO Liz DeCoursey, Morris County Commissioner Stephen Shaw, and Mayor Joe Nicastro, who spoke about the impact of this project on the community and the importance of investing in affordable homeownership.
The Stonewald development will feature seven two-story, single-family homes with 2, 3, or 4-bedroom layouts, basements, driveways, and attached one-car garages. All homes will be adaptable and accessible, equipped with central air conditioning, major appliances, and individual wells. Built to LEED standards using green and reusable materials, the homes are designed for long-term affordability and sustainability.
Future homeowners will be randomly selected from qualified applicants and will partner with GMM Habitat by contributing sweat equity—working alongside our construction team and volunteers. These families will purchase their homes with an affordable 30-year mortgage and benefit from a 30-year deed restriction that keeps the homes permanently affordable for future income-eligible buyers.
This project is made possible thanks to the generous land donation from Mount Olive Township, as well as funding from the Township’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund ($750,000), the New Jersey Affordable Housing Trust Fund ($1,646,480), a $50,000 donation from the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, State Court of New Jersey, and a $10,000 contribution from New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG).
Construction is underway, with a targeted completion date of summer 2026. We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us for this exciting launch and to all who support our mission of building homes, communities, and hope.
