Other Ways to Give

OTHER WAYS TO GIVE

There are many ways to support Morris Habitat for Humanity beyond a traditional one-time or recurring donation. No matter how you give, you will help local hardworking families build strength, stability and independence.

gifts of stock

Donating stocks allows you to avoid the capital gains tax and if you itemize deductions, you can also take a charitable deduction for the entire donation amount. We’ve invested in this secure online tool that enables you to donate your appreciated assets to Morris Habitat in 10 minutes.

donor-advised funds (DAFs)

are investment accounts for the sole purpose of supporting charitable organizations. If you have a DAF, you can use FreeWill’s DAF tool. This tool empowers you to make a targeted impact by recommending how you’d like your grant to be allocated, communicating your wishes to Morris Habitat, sharing the details of your DAF grant, and navigating to your DAF provider. It’s also a great way to ensure our organization has consistent financial support while saving cash for immediate needs.

Your Planned Gift can be the key that unlocks amazing potential.

give from your IRA

If you are 70.5 or older and have a traditional IRA, you can use this secure online tool to make a donation from your IRA account. IRA gifts are generally not recognized as taxable income and if you must take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) this year, giving to Morris Habitat from your IRA is a compassionate way to fulfill it.

Using this online tool you can learn more and fill out the forms from your IRA custodian in just a few minutes, or print out the forms to fill them out offline.

crypto donations

We now accept Crypto donations including Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. This is one more way to fund Morris Habitat’s work and can provide you with extra tax benefits.

real estate donations
With the high cost of land and homes in our service area, property acquisition has always been the greatest challenge we face. Without land, we cannot build and if we cannot build, we cannot achieve our goal of eliminating poverty housing and homelessness.

A charitable gift of land or of an existing home enables us to continue helping families in need and it provides you, the donor, with an opportunity for tax savings. A gift of real estate owned for more than one year entitles you to a charitable deduction for the full market value at the time the gift is made. Additionally, if the real estate has appreciated, you avoid a capital gains tax on the appreciation.

Morris Habitat also welcomes offers from property owners seeking to sell real estate at a substantial discount. The following are our criteria for property acquisition:

  • Property located in or near Morris or Middlesex Counties.
  • Reasonable acquisition cost. There may be some flexibility on price depending on condition of the lot or of the existing home and on the number of homes we can build.
  • Manageable topographical issues (e.g., wetlands, slope, trees).
  • The availability of public sewer, water and utilities.
  • Close proximity to public transportation is preferable.
  • Minimal environmental concerns.
