Building Hope and Homes in Perth Amboy

In partnership with Perth Amboy’s Redevelopment Team for Neighborhood Enterprise and Revitalization (PARTNER), the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (NJDCA), and the City of Perth Amboy, Morris Habitat broke ground on 2 new homes on Pearl Place in Perth Amboy. The homes will be stick-built construction. Each home will have a private entrance, a porch, garage, and a 1-car driveway. The first floor of each home will be handicapped accessible and adaptable. The project will consist of two (2) 3-bedroom homes, 2 bath homes. The homeowner families will be randomly selected from qualified applicants who attended a Program Information Meeting. Through Morris Habitat’s homeownership program, our homeowners qualify for an affordable 30 year mortgage to ensure they spend less than 30% on their housing costs. The homes will have a minimum 30-year deed restriction that allows modest equity upon resale, but mandates that it be sold at an affordable price to another income-eligible family. The prospective homeowners will contribute a minimum of 300 hours of sweat equity.
