Type:

  • Single-family home
  • New construction
  • 3 bedrooms
  • “Home in a Box”

On April 1 in the Chatham Middle School parking lot, 100 volunteers built dozens of home panels as part of Habitat International’s “Operation Home Delivery” program, set up to accelerate the rebuilding of homes in the Gulf Coast. Home panels, window boxes, bird houses, and 40 donated bicycles were packed in a container and transported to Texas by Maersk. The house was re-assembled on a brand-new street as part of a 24-house addition to an existing Habitat neighborhood. The quilt in the photo was one of our gifts to the family. Participants at the build in Chatham decorated individual quilt squares, which were sewed into the finished design by expert quilters.
