Retired U.S. Army sergeant Sam Gonzalez served 14 years in the United States Army and has two children, a fourteen-year-old girl and a twelve-year-old boy. He is a full-time student at Berkeley College and works for Vets4Warriors, a peer support network for veteran and military communities.
This project to build a “Home for a Hero” in Middlesex County was a joint venture with Perth Amboy Redevelopment Team for Neighborhood Enterprise and Revitalization (PARTNER), Veteran Home Build of Perth Amboy and the Perth Amboy Housing Authority .
The house has three bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms and a one-car attached garage. Green or reusable building materials were used where possible, and the home will be ENERGY STAR certified for energy efficiency.
Sponsors included Beasley Media Group, Investors Foundation, Provident Bank Foundation, Rotary Club of Old Bridge-Sayreville, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Wells Fargo and Wakefern Food Corporation.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held in October 2018. A dedication ceremony will take place in December 2020.
