Retired U.S. Army sergeant Sam Gonzalez served 14 years in the United States Army and has two children, a fourteen-year-old girl and a twelve-year-old boy. He is a full-time student at Berkeley College and works for Vets4Warriors, a peer support network for veteran and military communities.
This project to build a “Home for a Hero” in Middlesex County was a joint venture with Perth Amboy Redevelopment Team for Neighborhood Enterprise and Revitalization (PARTNER), Veteran Home Build of Perth Amboy and the Perth Amboy Housing Authority .
The house has three bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms and a one-car attached garage. Green or reusable building materials were used where possible, and the home is ENERGY STAR certified for energy efficiency.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held in October 2018. The family moved in during December 2020. In place of a dedication ceremony, a “Honk & Wave” parade of decorated cars celebrated the completion of this home in accordance with COVID-19 safety guidelines in May 2021.
