Seven volunteers aged 19 – 22 from all across the U.S. worked full-time at two of our construction sites (29 Hillside Terrace and 29 Hazel Street) from Wednesday, September 2, to Friday, October 16, 2015. AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) is a team-based service program that helps to strengthen communities and build leaders by working with non-profits and other agencies. These volunteers contributed approximately 3,200 hours of their labor! We thank the Tranquility Seventh-day Adventist Church in Andover for housing the team at their Tranquil Valley Retreat Center.
Organization, school and church groups helped these young volunteers by making lunch, dinner, dessert and snacks for them. They received a very small daily stipend for food. As we all know, food in New Jersey is expensive, and eating out is also very costly.
