LET’S BUILD TOGETHER! Fun for the Whole Family!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Hammer for Heroes 2017 a success! Over 200 participants came out on June 3 to honor our veteran families and to build the walls that will become a safe and stable family home for our newest Homeowner in Process for the Monmouth Avenue project, Stacey Goods. As the frame was raised, Stacey’s excitement and gratitude could not be contained. “This is where it turns real,” said the Newark resident, with a wide smile.

U.S. Marine Corps veterans Moyses Ramirez and Ivette Amaya were the event honorees. The couple and their child will be moving into a condo in our Martin Luther King Avenue project upon its completion next year.

Families, churches, and local businesses sponsored teams to build the frames, but there was time for fun too. Kids enjoyed activities like a bungee run, face painting, and building birdhouses sponsored by Home Depot. Adults had an opportunity to line dance to songs played by a DJ, and everyone could enjoy a hot dog thanks to the volunteers from Thrivent Financial. A great time was had by all. We hope to you see next year with a hammer in hand!
