Let’s Build Together for Our Veterans
In 2015, Hammer for Heroes attracted nearly 400 participants and volunteers and raised over $25,000 for Morris Habitat. Together, we built 30 walls for homes of two veterans and future Morris Habitat homeowners, Nathalie Figueroa and Edward Sartorius. Their new affordable homes will be located on Harding Avenue in Dover.
At this family-friendly event held at Morris Habitat for Humanity’s headquarters, volunteers of all ages can have a construction experience by swinging a hammer to frame walls for Habitat homes. The event also provides activities for younger children, including face painting, entertainment and crafts.
Team Depot volunteers from the Roxbury and Dover Home Depot stores supervised construction of walls, bird houses and a playhouse. Additional teams included Morris Habitat Board of Directors, Hilltop Presbyterian Church of Mendham, First Presbyterian Church of Succasunna, Retro Fitness, Kraus Marketing and Hilltown Systems. Picatinny Arsenal and Bonnie Blackwell arranged for the military Humvee and the fire truck.
