Put on your work clothes and join us at “WDHA & WMTR’s Hammer for Heroes” on Thursday and Friday, May 2 and 3, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (rain or shine). This is your chance to swing a hammer and to frame walls that will be used for a future Morris Habitat home for a veteran. Once the panels are completed, they will be transported to the home construction site.
105.5 WDHA FM will be broadcasting live from the build site at Beyer Ford in Morristown each day from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Their disc jockeys will be working side by side with the other volunteers at each morning and afternoon build shift.
Help bring a Marine veteran and his young family home for good.
This year’s event is dedicated to future homeowner family Daniel and Nicole Pope and their three young daughters, who will reside at our Main Street project in Roxbury Township. Daniel is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps who served in in the Iraq War in 2003.
Daniel and Nicole need a home they can afford that also will allow them to save money for the future. Even with two full-time jobs, the Popes had a difficult time making ends meet in Morris County. They were renting a tiny one-bedroom apartment for almost $2,000 a month until they moved in with Daniel’s parents.
Now the Popes are partnering with Morris Habitat, and they are on the path to financial security and self-sufficiency. The couple will build their home alongside volunteers and will pay an affordable mortgage of about $1000 a month for a three-bedroom condo. Daniel says he is really excited to help build the home where his children will grow up.
For the Popes, their affordable home will be life-changing. They won’t have to rely on other people. They will be able to pay off some of the debt they have and to start saving for the kids’ college. Nicole likes that they will have a place where their kids can set down roots. Daniel and Nicole know that they will be providing a safe, healthy, stable home for their daughters – a place where their children will thrive.
How Do I Get Involved?
Become a volunteer and help bang some nails.
