Work Site
Age Limits
Unless otherwise stated, you must be at least 16 years old to volunteer on a work site while construction is in progress. During the final stages of a project, youths aged 14 and 15 are allowed to do painting and landscaping. Additionally, volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. A signed construction release form must be filled out and brought with you to the site the day you are scheduled to volunteer.

What to expect on a work site:
- Work begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. and ends roughly at 4:00 p.m.
- Volunteers must register and turn in a signed release form upon arrival.
- Tasks may involve any of the following: framing and roofing; installing windows, doors, insulation, drywall, sheathing & siding; carrying materials; backfilling; assembling scaffolding; painting; doing finish work; and landscaping.
- There is a project coordinator for each unit built.
- Power tools should be used by experienced volunteers only or after instruction is given by a skilled supervisor.
- Professionals install plumbing, electric and fire systems.
- Breaks/lunch provided by the volunteer group, Habitat or a local business or community group.
- If you have a tool belt, tape measure, hammer, square or chalk line, bring them.
- If you bring your own tools, label them with your name.
- Gloves are recommended.
- Eye protection is strongly recommended.
