Construction Supervisor George Solovay

George Solovay

George Solovay is one of Morris Habitat’s longstanding volunteer construction supervisors and a core member of the “Friday Faithful.” This group of retired and semi-retired individuals has been volunteering faithfully on our construction sites for several years now, giving Construction Manager Mark Bippes an expert and dependable crew each and every Friday.

“I have always been a very active person,” says George. “Working for Habitat is one way in which I have kept busy.” George in retirement is more active than many folks half his age. Besides volunteering on the construction sites, he can often be found enjoying his lifelong passion of hiking favorite trails in Harriman State Park and the Catskills.

While helping to raise his two sons, George worked as a graphic artist and manager of the Respiratory Therapy Department at Overlook Hospital in Summit. He honed his building craft on his home in Florham Park, undertaking five major projects.

“There is something inherently noble in constructing homes for other people to live in,” George says. At 70, fit from his hiking and work with Habitat, George Solovay shows no signs of slowing down in his pursuit of this noble enterprise.
