Volunteer Spotlight
Written by Eileen Dock | December 2004
Three years ago on a hot and humid day during his vacation, Gerry Karg gave Habitat for Humanity a “try” to see if it was something he might like to do when he retired. He liked building things and thought Habitat was a great concept and might be a good fit for him. Here it is, 2004, and he is still with us!

Gerry is one of the “Friday Faithful” and can be counted upon to do whatever is needed, from roofing to electrical work to helping lay a foundation. Gerry originally started with Paterson Habitat and joined the Morris affiliate in 2001. One of the first projects he helped with was the refurbishing of a house in Chester.
According to MHFH’s Construction Manager, Mark Bippes, “Gerry personifies the ‘faithful’ in Friday Faithful as he is there every workday and willing to do pretty much anything that is asked of him.”
Gerry has been married 37 years and has three daughters, two sons as well as 5 grandchildren! He and his wife live in Riverdale where he is the daytime dispatcher for the Fire Department. Gerry looks forward to the start of construction at the Butler site and plans to contribute his time and expertise 2 days per week.
