ReStore Ambassador

Reports to: Director of Community Relations
Hours: 1-4 hours per month, work from home

Description:
The purpose of the ReStore Ambassador program is primarily to spread the word about the ReStore through all communities in Morris County and surrounding areas. One representative in each community will be responsible for getting out brochures and bulletin board announcements within the representative’s town. An attractive feature of the role is that it can be performed while going about usual activities such as shopping, stopping at the library or town hall, or just reading the newspaper. The ReStore Ambassador Coordinator will provide materials to the Ambassadors either through the mail or by pick-up at the ReStore.

Responsibilities include:

  • Post ReStore announcements on community bulletin boards and check that they are current. Such boards might be located in supermarkets, town halls, libraries, recreation centers, and churches and other houses of worship.
  • Provide ReStore brochures to locations where pamphlets are made available to the public, such as town halls and libraries. Check periodically to assure that adequate copies remain on display.
  • Spread the word about the ReStore to family, friends, neighbors, and people met on a casual basis, letting them know about opportunities to donate gently-used furniture, kitchen cabinets, plumbing fixtures, etc.; opportunities to buy items at the ReStore at greatly reduced prices, and opportunities to volunteer at the ReStore. Also, remind people that donations to the ReStore are charitable deductions for tax purposes and that the ReStore keeps material out of landfills.
  • Watch the local newspaper for information that could be helpful to the ReStore such as going-out-of-business notices, plans to take down buildings, and stores that might be willing to make donations of surplus stock. Clip copies of ReStore ads and articles about the ReStore. This information should be passed to the Coordinator of the Ambassadors.
  • Identify web sites, blogs, and online forums specific to your town. Post information there yourself, or inform the Coordinator of the web addresses so that another volunteer can handle this task.
