Our fifth Annual Gala was an enormous success, with a record-setting 270 attendees supporting the cause. During the lavish cocktail reception, guests bid on their favorite silent auction items. Talented step-dancers from Wick’s School of Irish Dance performed before the dinner feast. Later, guests danced the night away to local music legend Tropical Storm.
John Franklin, CEO of United Way of Morris County, reminded us of how he inspired the members of his church youth group with a heart-felt rendition of “Oh What a Beautiful Morning.” Homeowner Kelly Hemner gave a moving speech detailing the challenges she faces and her hopes for a new beginning. Through Morris Habitat, her dreams will become a reality this April when she and her two sons move into their new condo in Stanhope.
Proceeds from this year’s Hearts and Hammers Gala will help finance the building of more affordable homes. Homeowner families and volunteers are currently completing the Green Build 4-plex in Stanhope, and fifteen additional homes will be under construction in 2010. Success of the gala is due to the generosity of Event Sponsors IESI and Stuart Dean and many other supporters and donors. We also thank photographer Steven Rockoff for donating his time and skills.
Save the date of Saturday, February 26, 2011, for an even bigger celebration at our 25th Anniversary Gala at the Meadow Wood Manor. Our goal will be to raise $250,000 to support building hope and homes in the Morris County area.
