Fitness & Fun at the Bike & Hike and Car Show
On Saturday, June 2, 300 people gathered at Morristown’s Loantaka Park for the 9th Annual Historic Morris Bike & Hike. The cyclists donned their helmets and the walkers tightened their laces before embarking on one of 5 scenic riding/walking loops ranging from 2 to 35 miles. Members of the Morris Area Freewheelers Club, a volunteer road biking group, helped to map the routes and served as ride marshals.
Across the road at 475 South Street, the annual Car Show drew a crowd as well. This event funds the construction efforts of Youth United. The show was a car lover’s delight with 65 vintage, hot rod, and muscle models posing languidly in the sunlight. Awards were given in 30 categories in addition to Best of Show (Robert Bara’s 1932 Ford Tudor street rod) and People’s Choice (Marci Terlizza’s 1956 Corvette).
Entertainment included musical performances by the Harmonium Choral Society and “The Phnerts,” a Mendham High School a cappella group. Strongman Pat “Human Vise” Povilaitis held the crowd’s attention with his display of extreme grip strength. Au Capoeira of Madison demonstrated the Brazilian martial art that combines music, dance, and acrobatics.
The financial support of Event Sponsor The Provident Bank with Jackson Hewitt Tax Service, Lakeland Bank, PSE&G and Valley National Bank was vital to the success of the two events. The Bike & Hike and the Car Show provided enjoyment for several groups—fitness enthusiasts, families looking for weekend fun, and automobile aficionados.
